About St. Damien of Molokai
St. Damien of Molokai (1840–1889) was a Belgian missionary priest who devoted his life to caring for those suffering from leprosy in Hawaii. When others fled, he went willingly, building homes, churches, and community for those exiled to Molokai. His compassion turned despair into dignity and faith into daily life.
He eventually contracted the same disease, uniting himself completely with those he served. His life stands as a testament to fearless love and Christlike sacrifice — a reminder that holiness is found in giving ourselves fully for others.
