About St. Rose Philippine Duchesne

St. Rose Philippine Duchesne (1769–1852) was a French nun of the Society of the Sacred Heart whose missionary heart led her to the American frontier. Facing hardship, isolation, and frail health, she never lost her devotion to prayer. Among the Potawatomi people, she was known as “the woman who prays always.” Her life reveals that the deepest mission is not always in words or deeds, but in prayer — trusting that God works even in silence.
