Reflection: Before becoming a bishop, St. Martin was a young Roman soldier. One cold day, he encountered a poorly clothed beggar outside the gates of Amiens. Having little else to give, Martin divided his cloak and shared it with the man. That night, he dreamed of Christ wearing the piece he had given away. This experience reminds us that acts of compassion are never insignificant. When we notice those who are struggling, lonely, or forgotten and respond with love, we open our hearts to Christ Himself.

About St. Martin of Tours
St. Martin of Tours was a fourth-century Roman soldier who became a monk, missionary, and Bishop of Tours. He is especially remembered for encountering a poorly clothed beggar and dividing his cloak to share with him. According to Christian tradition, Martin later dreamed of Christ wearing the portion of the cloak he had given away. His growing faith eventually led him away from military life and toward prayer, simplicity, and service. As bishop, he remained known for his humility, concern for the poor, commitment to peace, and devotion to Christ.
