St. Anthony Mary Claret was a nineteenth-century Spanish missionary, preacher, writer, and bishop whose extraordinary zeal led him to devote his life to spreading the Gospel. He traveled extensively preaching missions, promoted Catholic literature, founded the congregation now known as the Claretians, and later served as Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba. Deeply devoted to prayer, the Eucharist, Scripture, and the Blessed Virgin Mary, he remained faithful through opposition, persecution, and exile. His life is a powerful witness to what God can accomplish through a heart completely devoted to Christ.
