Reflection: The mountains held a special place in Pier Giorgio’s life. For him, climbing was more than recreation; the heights reflected the direction of his spiritual journey. Shortly before his death, he wrote the words Verso l’alto—“Toward the heights”—on a photograph taken during a mountain climb. Those words have come to express his desire to keep moving toward Christ. Our own spiritual journey is also a climb. Some days we make progress; other days the path feels steep. What matters is that we continue upward, refusing to become comfortable with a faith that never grows. Today, ask yourself where God may be inviting you to take one small step higher.

About St. Pier Giorgio Frassati
St. Pier Giorgio Frassati was an energetic young Italian who loved mountain climbing, sports, friendship, and laughter while living a deeply committed Catholic faith. His devotion to the Eucharist and prayer inspired him to serve poor families throughout Turin, often sacrificing his own comfort to help others. He courageously brought his faith into public life and quietly touched countless lives through his generosity. Pier Giorgio died from poliomyelitis in 1925 at only twenty-four. His famous words Verso l’alto—“Toward the heights”—continue to inspire Christians to keep striving toward Christ.
