About St. Philomena
St. Philomena (c. 291–c. 304) has been honored for generations as a young virgin and martyr. According to tradition, she remained devoted to Christ despite persecution and suffering. Her tomb was discovered in the Catacomb of Priscilla in Rome in 1802, and devotion to her spread widely after her relics were transferred to Mugnano del Cardinale, Italy. St. John Vianney was among those with a strong devotion to her. Philomena’s enduring witness continues to inspire courage, perseverance, purity of heart, and trust in God.
