Reflection: As conditions in Ireland became increasingly dangerous, Oliver had good reason to be afraid. Yet fear did not become the foundation upon which he made his decisions. His trust remained rooted in God. Fear is a natural response when we face uncertainty, loss, conflict, or circumstances we cannot predict. Faith does not require us to deny that fear exists. Instead, it gives us somewhere to take it. Oliver’s example encourages us to bring our fears honestly before God and allow trust to become stronger than anxiety, one prayer and one faithful decision at a time.

About St. Oliver Plunkett
St. Oliver Plunkett was a seventeenth-century Irish archbishop and martyr who served the Church during a time of religious persecution and political uncertainty. As Archbishop of Armagh, he worked courageously to strengthen Catholic communities and serve the faithful despite growing danger. Falsely accused of conspiring against the English government, Oliver was imprisoned, condemned to death, and executed at Tyburn in 1681. He remained steadfast in his faith and forgave those responsible for his suffering, leaving an enduring example of courage, mercy, and trust in God.
